Any product that might contain asbestos must be handled with great care to avoid exposure to asbestos fibers. Asbestos is only hazardous when it enters the body, usually through the respiratory system. Any actions that could cause the product to fragment in some way and therefore release asbestos fibers into the air must be avoided. Asbestos fibers can become very small, and actually be their structure are prone to break down into microscopic pieces. Some important "do not's" are: Do not dust, sweep, or vacuum debris that you suspect may be asbestos. Do not disturb the area in any other way, such as by sanding, scraping, sawing, or hammering. Do not use brushes or strip wax on floors containing asbestos material. Such actions could release microscopic fibers into the air, creating a severe health hazard.
